Young stars come to Carmel to beat pediatric cancer

Dear friends:

The following letter arrived just this week from two wonderful parents, Allyson and Bob Kavner, whose son, Reed, has responded to his own health crisis by setting up Rising Stars Raising Funds, which will take place the evening of Saturday, October 13th and will showcase five acts from around the United States.

Here is the memo from Allyson and Bob:

Wednesday, August 29, 2007 - Reed's Fundraising Event   http://www.letsbeatthis.org/risingstars/pages/press.html
Hi, Jim:

As you know, during this past year of treatment and rehabilitation, Reed established the Ewing's Research Foundation (www.letsbeatthis.org) to raise awareness of this pediatric bone cancer and to help provide desperately needed financial support for researchers working to find better therapies and ultimately a cure for this disease. To that end, he has produced a fantastic showcase of amazing young talent called "Rising Stars Raising Funds" which will be performed on Saturday, October 13, at Sunset Center here in Carmel. Reed has spent this past year working tirelessly to create a fun and entertaining family event which will be enjoyed by anyone of any age. Our goal is to have Sunset Center packed to the rafters to show support for his efforts and to applaud these gifted entertainers who have donated their services for this most worthy cause.

We'd be delighted if you'd take a moment to visit the event website www.RisingStarsCarmel.com where you can read more about the show and purchase tickets.

Thanks so much for your support and we look forward to seeing you on October 13 at Sunset Center!

With love and appreciation,
Allyson and Bob Kavner

This above letter describes the situation.  Will you help me to help Rising Stars Raising Funds?

  4. or, forward this memo to everyone you know and ask them to purchase tickets and help with this noble effort:  www.RisingStarsCarmel.com  -  someone told me this is viral marketing, so let’s start the virus

And from the “Let’s Beat This” press release:

“The event is being produced by 20-year-old Ewing's Research Foundation founder, Reed Kavner, who
conceived the idea while in treatment for Ewing’s Sarcoma, an aggressive pediatric bone cancer. The
performers, ranging in age from 8 to 18, have all donated their time for the show. “This is a real example
of kids helping kids on several different levels,” said Reed, who is now in remission. “We’ll have kids
on stage, we want kids in the audience, and it all benefits research to defeat a kids’ disease.”

Bringing the audience music, magic, and comedy, the evening’s performers have appeared on shows such
as Oprah, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and America’s Got Talent,
profiled on TLC and A&E, and have had roles in popular programs such as HBO’s Entourage and Disney
Channel’s That’s So Raven.

Friends and colleagues:  the operative verb is "purchase" at:  www.RisingStarsCarmel.com or at the Carmel Sunset Center 831-620-2048.  And, let us know if you want us to distribute tickets.

Thank you, in advance, for helping.

Jim

P.S.  Having some up close and personal experience, take a little advice from my wife, Jane, and me:  wear sunscreen and include all exposed areas, including areas around your face and ears.  It only takes a few seconds to increase your protection from skin cancer – so, please take the time.

Sincerely,

Jim
